RockmusicRaider Review - Arrayan Path - Dawn of Aquarius - Album CoverMany a metal wizard is already active in the Power Metal arena with many more trying to get a foothold in a very crowded genre. And this breeds uniformity, which – by definition – shuns progression and evolution to anything new. Methinks that the ‘typical’ sound and style now ingrained themselves into the minds of fans and pros alike. So much so that a certain expectancy arose with the fan community as to how Power Metal ought to sound. Known values are good for the soul, are they not?

So to avoid to swim up mainstream creek without a paddle, bands need to make an extra effort to be heard. To the point that some of them drive themselves to extremes to get there. Gloryhammer in space, anyone? Or they Unleash The Archers and play Mad Max in a desert. So in other words, many bands resort to exuberance and flamboyance to stand out from the mean crowd that continues to almost religiously stir the stale brand of pottage Power Metal has often become.  [...]  Got hooked? RockmusicRaider Review - IV: Stigmata - Album CoverRockmusisRaider seems to be on the Power Metal train these days. It always amazes me that Cyprus seems to have this ability to churn out metal bands that keep on getting on my radar. Arrayan Path is one of them and with their 2013 and 4th full-length record IV: Stigmata they have created another metal laden delight that should for sure retain your attention.

I just did a review on Unleash The Archers, which pissed me off to no end. Reason being that these guys endlessly rehash the same already badly executed concept. Not realizing it does not work, like beating a dead horse all over again. In contrast, Arrayan Path boast a pretty simple, but crystal clear and precise approach to Power Metal. And it is skillfully and thoughtfully done. Methinks that they are detaching themselves somewhat from underneath the vile mainstream and reach their own territory. Yet they don’t do this lightly: From song writing to lyrics, they almost put scholarly attention behind details and it shows.

A lot of the power and quality goes to Nicolas Leptos, the lead of this outfit. His very gummy-flexible vocal powers perfectly lend themselves to their style overall. And this goes from belting them lyrics at a very high reach to melodious interludes in some of the ballads.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Arrayan Path – Chronicles of Light (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Arrayan Path - Chronicles of Light - Album CoverArrayan Path have this uncanny knack to connect to you immediately and get you to continue listening to their tune. I am not exactly sure what causes this, but Chronicles of Light is certainly pretty powerful stuff, sprinkled with a lot of passion and authenticity. It is this extra kick that gets the reviewers attention for a record, even if the pipeline is desperately overflowing. Now, they just did exactly that to me with their 5th and newest album Chronicles of Light.

And it is this strange potion of Southern Mediterranean island-flavored metal that did the trick. And the fact that the heavy influence of the excellent IV: Stigmata, their 2013 album, still persistently lingers at the back of my mind. Of course, Arrayan Path join us from beautiful Cyprus and this saddles them with some brownie points already. Blynd be lauded for that with Liber Sum (totally different style, but same location and amazingly good). The island features a somewhat mysterious and pretty tight community, showing off different kinds of metal. This couples with a few jolly good studios that churn out good quality tunes.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
