RockmusicRaider Review - Delain - Moonbathers - Album CoverI’ll be damned, time flies really fast. It is already ten years and five full length albums down the road for the Dutch Symphonic and Gothic Metal band Delain. Now crowned with their latest record Moonbathers

Already their very first album Lucidity impressed me greatly. To find a début of an unknown band at such a level of professionalism was astounding. The whole record exuded a freshness and carefree attitude that – sadly – started lacking on future albums. And of course the undeniable vocal powers – then and now – of Charlotte Wessels contributed greatly to the success of the band. April Rain – their second – followed in the same footsteps.Got hooked? Delain – The Human Contradiction (2014) – Review

Record Rating: 6 Star  Apple Music Badge – Buy with Amazon!

RockmusicRaider Review - Delain - Human Contradiction - Album CoverWell, how to classify ‘Delain‘s latest concoction The Human Contradiction? Still ‘Delain‘, but a more sanitized, more mainstream version of their former, fresher self. And with former I mean before the album ‘We are the Others‘ that got itself a bit too much into the Pop Rock arena for its own good.

Their 2014 and 4th studio album ‘The Human Contradiction‘ very much reminds oneself of the look and feel of the latest ‘Within Temptation‘ development, but – perhaps – this is way too simplistic. Methinks that they actually did better than WT’s Hydra, which is and ever will be a mediocre record.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Delain – Lucidity (2006) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Delain - Lucidity - Album CoverLucidity‘ is the first time Delain really started to manifest themselves and – WHAM – they produce something this good and in their very own style.

The band was founded by Martijn Westerholt back in 2002,  who – I am told – had to leave Within Temptation for health reasons. Most definitely, the change has been a good thing and – as the saying goes – sometimes things seem to happen for a reason.

Of course the influence of Within Temptation and Nightwish undoubtedly is there, but they also equally undoubtedly found their own sound.

Lucidity presents itself kind of laid back, very musical Gothic Metal together with genuine symphonic elements.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Delain – April Rain (2009) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Delain - April Rain - Album CoverKind of closely following their late 2006 album ‘Lucidity’ in style, this new Symphonic and Gothic Metal concoction April Rain is nevertheless a step up in speed and overall juice.

And of course quite influenced by elements of Nightwish, whose style has been clearly brought to the forefront by Marco Hietala‘s excellent contribution to this album. The consequence however is that at times the production sounds a bit too much like Nightwish itself to the point of causing Delain almost losing its identity at some point.

But almost only. What mainly saves ‘April Rain’ from this fate is the lovely Charlotte Wessels, who sings the tracks as expertly as always.Got hooked? Raid this some more...
