Illuminata – Where Stories Unfold (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Illuminata - Where Stories Unfold - Album CoverNow wait a minute: We have drumblasts – check! We have distorted guitars – check! We have a female front – check! Ah, only one? Confused! Symphonic influence – check! So, this must be Gothic Metal – NOPE! Well, kind of nope. It does have all of the trappings of a Metal record, but it is for sure not your usual piece of Symphonic Metal.

The Austrian band Illuminata (from the beautiful city of Graz – the one with the funky Kunsthaus and clock tower) have with their 2015 album Where Stories Unfold created something completely different from what they delivered with their last record – a remarkable change in direction.Got hooked? RockmusicRaider Review - Illuminata - A World So Cold - Album CoverI have no idea where all these mediocre reviews come from I tortured myself reading and why the fuck I did this to myself is beyond me. The 2011 album ‘A World So Cold‘ from the Austrian band ‘Illuminata‘ is simply refreshing (apart from the bodged intro that just wants to make you scream and kick the walls).

Pure Symphonic Metal of the Gothic kind, best described as  ‘Within Temptation‘ with an edge, mixed with some ‘Xandria‘ style elements. Add a hint of of ‘Nightwish‘ to this medley and it will put a smile on my face.Got hooked? Raid this some more...
