RockmusicRaider Review - Xandria - Theater of Dimensions - Album CoverThey did it. They finally dit it. Xandria managed to keep one of their female fronts a bit longer than for a felt stretch of one album only. So, here they again feature the classically trained Dutch singer Dianne Van Giersbergen on their second album in a row. And rightly so. Talented girl that she is, she can easily match a range from Tarja Turunen, over Floor Jansen and back to Simone Simons. And that means something.

As the band’s progression goes, already their last contribution Sacrificium was a step up the star-studded ladder of operatic glory. This makes you wonder where their latest and seventh full length record Theater of Dimensions will take us.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Xandria – India (2005) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Xandria - India - Album CoverWhen I read the late twitter from the German band  ‘Xandria‘ a few days ago that they are now (in 2015 – wow) heading out to India for the first time, it struck me as somewhat ironic. And this of course in light of their 2005 record and 3rd studio album ‘India‘ that has been on the market for … almost 10 years now. Hmm!

After their very successful 2nd album ‘Ravenheart‘ it must have been decidedly difficult to find the venue for a fitting succession to an already successful former record and, in addition, just about a short year later.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Xandria – Ravenheart (2004) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Xandria - Ravenheart - Album CoverThe first time I came across Xandria was with their second album ‘Ravenheart‘. Not sure what really got my interest going to be honest. It probably was their unique style they displayed at that time. A German band, rocking in a somewhat delirious and quite poppy brand of Gothic Rock and Metal.

Their style – or more their interesting mix of styles – is somewhat addictive and has this tendency to grow on you. For sure, they were not ground breakers in this genre. But they were able carve out a niche for themselves, starting with Ravenheart. And – frankly – back then not many foresaw such a brilliant future for this band.

Xandria – Sacrificium (2014) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Xandria - Sacrificium - Album CoverWho would have thought that Xandria would evolve in this way. From the almost failed (oh yeah..), but widely hyped album ‘Neverworld’s End’, I had no great hopes for ‘Sacrificium‘, the newest concoction of this here group of lauded musicians.

Especially because the band likes to disband their front women at a very rapid pace. With that kind of turnover, you just will have trouble succeeding and delivering quality work – unless your singer is just a voice-piece. And let’s hope that this is not the case with this band. Honi soit qui mal y pense! – as we say in French.

But then, one can always be positively impressed, right?Got hooked? Raid this some more...
