RockmusicRaider Review - Nightwish - Once - Album CoverYes, it is! The 2004 release Once of Finnish metallers Nightwish really is … typical Nightwish fare after all. But with a real hard-edge Heavy Metal twist that I have not seen displayed yet by this band; before and after this record. ‘Cause the ones that came before – for instance Oceanborn and to a lesser extent Century Child – ended up being some sort of a uniform amalgam of stuff. Power Metal and Gothic Metal – yes to an extent – but nothing really knocking the socks off my feet. And the albums following this here release are of a different style in a sense.Got hooked? Nightwish – Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Nightwish - Endless Forms Most Beautiful - Album CoverIt is indeed and undeniably Nightwish as we know it. My fears that this time we would be faced with something entirely different did not materialize. But this very same and familiar style is presented with an added edge to boot.

And it is not more metal. It is darker, more direct, a tad louder than before. There is a distinct or – shall we say – pretty heavy use of symphonic and folk elements that is another hallmark of their 8th full length studio album Endless Forms Most Beautiful. So, this is undeniably Nightwish, but refreshingly different from their last record Imaginaerum. This whole concoction reminds me a bit of Dark Passion Play, but it is different still and for sure faster.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Nightwish – Dark Passion Play (2007) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Nightwish - Dark Passion Play - Album CoverGuys, this is an amazing record! I absolutely love it. Not sure if this was the first one I ever listened to from Nightwish, but Dark Passion Play definitely beats everything out of the sky that the band produced so far. Very sorry, you Tarja fans, her records just ain’t that good. But only just, I admit, judging by her performance on her last and final album Once.

It is of course not only the front woman, but here it needs to be noted that Anette Olzon really delivers on Dark Passion Play. And this in spite of the hate that fans directed at her for the simple reason that the band chose her to replace Tarja Turunen.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

RockmusicRaider Review - Nightwish - Imaginaerum - Album CoverFollowing the outstanding Dark Passion Play, Nightwish created this 7th studio album Imaginaerum. And vary we were. Because after such great results, one is never sure how to top the last edition of a band’s delights.

Now, to start, the band – together with director Stobe Harju (The Islander) – decided to accompany the album with a film created in tandem. The movie finally saw its light of day in 2012 and features re-interpretations of tracks on this current album, plus some new stuff. The tracks Slow, Love, Slow, an instrumental of I Want My Tears Back and Scaretale are directly played on the film.Got hooked? Raid this some more...
