Will 2020 be the year of the storytellers?

We just covered Porta Nigra and their godly blackened airs early this year. Now, this time we came across Totenheer, literary specialists from Switzerland, it appears. But the theme they chose is one of those tales that I learned to appreciate over time.

Germany has a special place in my cold metallic heart as it comes to unique, strange and strangely extreme metal bands. Those that disregard guidelines and reject expectations.

And this is paradoxical in a way, because – well – these folks usually and by definition should follow ze rulez, as is their wont. Always. This is Germany after all.

There’s that cliché out there.

This idea that Power Metal must always sound like some juvenile wet dream. Hairdo dangerously close to glam, tight pants, the glaringly gaudy jacket, and the ubiquitous metal guitar shredder that should catapult you to new heights. All of that embedded in scratchy speed and soaring vocals. And garnished with a life-threatening addiction to cheese, dragon lore and trolls on steroids.
