RockmusicRaider Review - IV: Stigmata - Album CoverRockmusisRaider seems to be on the Power Metal train these days. It always amazes me that Cyprus seems to have this ability to churn out metal bands that keep on getting on my radar. Arrayan Path is one of them and with their 2013 and 4th full-length record IV: Stigmata they have created another metal laden delight that should for sure retain your attention.

I just did a review on Unleash The Archers, which pissed me off to no end. Reason being that these guys endlessly rehash the same already badly executed concept. Not realizing it does not work, like beating a dead horse all over again. In contrast, Arrayan Path boast a pretty simple, but crystal clear and precise approach to Power Metal. And it is skillfully and thoughtfully done. Methinks that they are detaching themselves somewhat from underneath the vile mainstream and reach their own territory. Yet they don’t do this lightly: From song writing to lyrics, they almost put scholarly attention behind details and it shows.

A lot of the power and quality goes to Nicolas Leptos, the lead of this outfit. His very gummy-flexible vocal powers perfectly lend themselves to their style overall. And this goes from belting them lyrics at a very high reach to melodious interludes in some of the ballads.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Gloryhammer – Tales from the Kingdom of Fife (2013) – Review

RockmusicRaider - Tales of the Kingdom of Fife - Album CoverHow to best describe this? Ah, yeah. The band calls it Heroic Fantasy Power Metal, no less. But it indeed feels like the beginning of the Kingdom of Cheese. This is what happens, when a Scottish pirate and a Swiss cheese artist come together to form a band. The début of the mighty Gloryhammer called Tales from the Kingdom of Fife happens. That’s what!

Reminiscent of Hammerfall in many cases, the album for sure does not break any new ground. But whatever ground they break presents itself with an absolutely stellar enthusiasm and a technical prowess that puts other debuting bands to shame. Remember, these are the same guys, who just kicked it up a few notches in 2015 with Space 1992: The Rise of the Chaos Wizards. Almost unbelievable, but they did. And just missed costing me my sanity too, but here I am lustily attacking the first record of the mighty Hammer of Glory.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Summoning – Old Mornings Dawn (2013) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn - Album CoverOkay, I am hooked. The Austrian synthie pop Black Metal universe gets me feeling all funny inside. Especially if this talks to my benevolent Depeche Mode nerve that was long thought dead, but now tries to resurrect itself. Seriously! Summoning with their 2013 Old Mornings Dawn are marching down their straight Roman road to Middle Earth still after all these years. To be more precise, it is 7 long years of waiting – incidentally the critical period in any kind of relationship.

And the question here will mainly be: Who delivers the better Atmospheric Black Metal? Caladan Brood – the new flavor on the market (well, not quite that new anymore) – or Summoning with their last record? Well, interestingly, whilst the latter have certainly invented this genre to a very large extent, the former really delivered from their perch in Utah. Sorry guys, ’tis just the way it is.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
