INK – Loom (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Ink - Loom - Album Cover

The RMR deck crew loves the extraordinary. The tunes that sit outside of the vile mainstream. Those bands that push the boundaries towards galaxies unknown. And it doesn’t always need to be the smelly underbelly of the metal multiverse necessarily.

RockmusicRaider often also fancy relatively unknown bands and not only those with a gazillion records under their belts already. That is contrary to many reviewers, whose claim to fame resides solely with known bands.

The Greek horde INK has been sailing about the outskirts of our musical consciousness for quite a while. Not only have they just released Whispers of [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Meadows End - Soujourn - Album Cover

Now, imagine you would marry the evil twin of Nightwish to Insomnium and give the female front of the former the boot first. You would in all probability beget a magic child called Meadows End.

Their style mixes the Scandinavian kind of Death Metal with not very subtle symphonic elements. And this gets us a sound that is pretty unique. Even if further influences like Omnium Gatherum, Amon Amarth and a tad of Wolfheart cannot be denied.

RockmusicRaider Review - Aephanemer - Memento Mori - Album Cover

Aephanemer. A strange band name but one with true promise. And that becomes visible straight from the start of Memento Mori, their debut full-length record. The first thing striking you in this record is the ever-present, almost overwhelming lead guitar. Its inescapable sound – close to Moonlight Prophecy – buzzes about your ears relentlessly and risks wearing itself out on ye. And the record seems to be constructed around this specific main pillar. Very similar to what Gone in April did with drums back in time.

RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Malacoda - Ritualis Aeterna - Album Cover

Malacoda flapped about the RMR office’s mutual conscience for a long while already, like one of them big fat vampire bats. The ones from places where the moon reigns supreme with its big, shiny fangs. Their EP Ritualis Aeterna initially released in December 2016 and now got on global distribution by this January 2018.

Named after a character in Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, Malacoda take the idea of Gothic Metal to the next level. The band paints this vivid, slightly decadent debauchery of soundscapes in bold baroque and Victorian strokes. Some sort of delicious, epic pandemonium, slightly reminiscent of Kamelot with [...] Click to raid more!
