The fact that the ever cute Charlotte Wessels (Delain) is the female front on this project really piqued my interest right away. Not because she is cute of course. But because she can sing and is one of the most respected professionals in the genre.

The name sends you echoes of mystical events way back in time. To King Arthus’ court of the round table of valiant knights. An epic era much shrouded in fabulously famous legends of all kinds. And here we are expecting something stellar around these lines. Metal at its best.

And I am getting something that somehow sounds like it, but it just does not quite feel right. Epica made the same mistake lately with their 2014 disc The Quantum Enigma– the overdone turkey one, with too much gravy. Too much over-compressed bombast, too many instruments to play with. Delain – Lucidity (2006) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Delain - Lucidity - Album CoverLucidity is the first time the Dutch boys and girls of Delain really started to manifest themselves. And – WHAM – they produce something this good and with their very own brand. This is astonishing in a way, and yet again not surprising.

The band was founded by Martijn Westerholt back in 2002, who – I am told – had to leave Within Temptation after Mother Earth for health reasons. Most definitely, the change has been a good thing. And – as the saying goes – sometimes things seem to happen for a reason.
