Once Covid starts moving on, 2022 should turn out to be great. Well, that’s what the ever-optimistic crew over here honestly thought. But nope, we were so wrong! To the contrary and as the saying goes, if it can get worse, it will. And it did on a few fronts. Geopolitical issues galore, new wars, shaky economies all over the globe, a felt gazillion of tyrants emerging, it didn’t look that good over the last 12 months. And all of that will continue into next year, so don’t get your hopes up.

Well, who ever said that Black Metal oughta sound like those old masters down to the monotonous vile rasp and underground sound from back in the ’90s? Right, nobody. Apart from some purists perhaps that may still populate the smelly underbelly of the mighty metal multiverse.

But I daresay, variety is sorely needed in this bloodied realm of undead things and unspeakable horrors. A genre that adores its traditions and doesn’t take well to change. Even if some veterans made laudable efforts to the contrary without leaving their sacred grounds of long-gone times.

Ah, we’re late again, so late. Work life at RMR starts to feel like Twitter these days. Not enough staff to keep the lights on, and we didn’t even fire anybody (yet). Because if we would, nobody would be left. So, the staff over here at the RMR office tower just slaves on in dogged resignation which leads to a smokin’ mountain of pent-up anger. So, there’s nothing better than some furious demolition delivered with some red-hot metal. And these are exactly the kind of meds everybody needs over here.

Kampfar‘s raw power already hit us like dark lightning back in 2019 when Ofidians Manifest appeared at our doorstep. It’s difficult to describe but there seemed to be some cosmic juice behind that sort of proto Black Metal. And besides, this band is one of the age-old BM outfits that survived all those tribulations that befell other biggies in the genre. And I guess, it’s their authenticity and starkly barebone approach to their craft that continuously garners them kudos after all these years.
