RockmusicRaider Review - Delain - Moonbathers - Album CoverI’ll be damned, time flies really fast. It is already ten years and five full length albums down the road for the Dutch Symphonic and Gothic Metal band Delain. Now crowned with their latest record Moonbathers

Already their very first album Lucidity impressed me greatly. To find a début of an unknown band at such a level of professionalism was astounding. The whole record exuded a freshness and carefree attitude that – sadly – started lacking on future albums. And of course the undeniable vocal powers – then and now – of Charlotte Wessels contributed greatly to the success of the band. April Rain – their second – followed in the same footsteps. Both offerings were prominently spiced up by Marco Hietala from Nightwish. And it is indeed his contribution early on in Delain‘s career that set this ship on the course to glory. [...]  Got hooked? Demise of the Crown Self Titled Album CoverDiscovering Canada is really something. Apart from the stunning countryside, Canadians display a generally more laid back atmosphere than down South and yonder the mighty border. Neat cities and generally nice people, you will find a pretty good and very active metal community. Power Metal outfits like Unleash the Archers, but also Demise of the Crown are part of this landscape. The latter just unleashed their self-titled and independent début album beginning of March 2016.

A bunch of seasoned musicians (..so they say), they formed back in 2014 in Montréal getting on the Power Metal train with the somewhat lofty aim and I quote – “…a band determined to shake the foundation of power metal.” Well, okay, there you go. That’s a base to work from.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Denigrate – Hollowpoint (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Denigrate - Hollowpoint - Album CoverSoft music playing and a voice goes: In times past there lived a king and queen of the Ancient Metal Kingdom, who said to each other every day of their lives: “If only we had a metal child!”. And yet they had none. One day the queen was bathing and an ugly frog with a Motörhead tattoo came out of the water, leered at her and said drooling: “Thy wish shall be fulfilled. If you kiss and cuddle me, oh succulent one, thou shalt witness my transformation and get a child.” She did and SMACK BOOM there it was. IT?? Yes, called Denigrate – from Finland, playing Sleeping Beauty since 2007. [Soft music is brutally replaced by metal sounds!]. And they are back with a vengeance with their newest brainchild Hollowpoint, attacking straight with some real metal. Like a bullet hitting you at full tilt. There you go, nomen est omen.

When I started on Hollowpoint, I was floored! I admittedly expected something different and much flatter. But luckily the pudding proved to be jolly good eating. And they should probably rename this album to The Awakening or something. ‘Cause, this is real good, mature metal. No shit. The long slumber of this beauty has certainly done a world of good to the quality of their tune. Interestingly, the same happened to Sorcerer with In The Shadow of the Inverted Cross. When these folks came to from their beauty sleep and let loose, it just took your breath away. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
