Somebody opined that we haven’t heard anything like this record. Come again? The RMR crew is known to take on eclectic pieces of the weird. Records that are so far out of the box and hidden in the wastes of metalland, you’ll have to search the outer reaches of space for them. And Latin-based languages fascinate us to no end when they come with a juicy slab of Extreme Metal. Case in point, Dawn of a Dark Age’s Transumanza hit our turntables not that long ago. A pig-headed piece if there ever was one. And devilishly difficult to review.

2024 brought us our share of French Black Metal already. Seth and Corpus Diavolis are just two of them. Powerful occult Black Metal pieces that will beat the fear of Lucifer into you. Some of it is presented in French, no less. An attribute that the RMR crew has trouble resisting. Extreme Metal works best in that specific language. Latin-based, Luciferian, just good. Even if Satan – apparently – resides somewhere in London.

This seems to be the season of the ethereal Post Metal and pseudo Post Black concoctions. The eclectic Eva Can’t just got some undue attention lately. And their fare truly sails in the same or similar waters the folks of Alcest usually occupy. So, it only behooves us to give Les Chants de l’Aurore a hefty shake to see what gives.

I just came back from Germany.
