Blasts from the Past 2024: Prog meets Metal Wiolence!

Nostalgic Rock Band with Juke Box - Blasts from the Past 2024

What can I say, we can’t help it. Our revolutionary genes kicked in yet again in 2024. Rulez have been broken and oldish content was covered with abandon. Well, the sinning wasn’t quite that severe. But the selection of Blasts from the Past is kinda juicy nonetheless, ranging from Prog geekery to brvtish metallic wiolence. The kind of thing that will keep you entertained and your hackles up at the same time.

Welcome to a new selection of crazy alloys and strange archaeological finds!

Rotting Christ - ΠΡΟ ΧΡΙΣΤΟU - Pro Christou - Album Cover

RMR covered Rotting Christ for a few years already. They’re one of the feistiest established Extreme Metal bands still standing in the metal multiverse. The band just announced a new record for this Year of the Dark Lord 2024, and it’s thus time to get yet another look at the past. Old, tasty slabs of early Extreme Metal that we haven’t quite savored yet. Metal wisdom from a time that didn’t sport too much metallic fare (yet). The 1997 piece A Dead [...] Click to raid more!

Since the RMR webzine saw the light of day, Insomnium always was a sure value. Their slightly melancholic yet stately brand of Melodic Death Metal gorging on Niilo Sevänen‘s gruff croaks, a smattering of clears, and stellar weeping guitar work always got on our good side. And I daresay, this band probably was instrumental in getting yours truly’s ass in gear to hunt for more melodeath than is good for metal health.1

The most impressive records that crossed the RMR Review committee’s desk definitely were Shadows of the Dying Sun and the excellent Winter’s Gate. But after … [...] Click to raid more!
