Rotting Christ - ΠΡΟ ΧΡΙΣΤΟU - Pro Christou - Album Cover

RMR covered Rotting Christ for a few years already. They’re one of the feistiest established Extreme Metal bands still standing in the metal multiverse. But they’re also a band that doesn’t give a damn what others might think and just do their thing, blackened as it may be. So, over time, the Greeks around Sakis Tolis delivered a variety of flavors. From virulent black, to death, and gothic doom ‘n’ gloom, they got everything in their baggage.

But around the middle of the last decade, a shift in style occurred. With Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού (Katá ton Daímona Eautoú)1[...] Click to raid more!

They’re like satellites that never connect to planet RMR. Bands that somehow float about our very own solar system, but more on an impossibly erratic course than the usual ellipse. It’s a bit like those comets that make no sense because nobody really understands what they do once they’re in intergalactic space.

And it is bands like Saor that buzz about our space but never quite reach the surface of our metallic abode. Our review pipe without Caledonian Metal. That’s not normal.

So finally, RMR Himself got ahold of Origins. Not because the music is so compelling, we couldn’t … [...] Click to raid more!

Archspire Bleed - The Future - Album Cover

No more Technical Death Metal this year. That was the iron-clad directive from RMR management some months ago. And indeed, the RMR ‘zine suffered its fair share of this often overly nerdy genre in these first 10 months or so of a very long 2021.

Those findings ranged from pseudo-Nippon bloatware with benefits to what one could avidly describe as some totally savvy cosmic crossover, we got it all.1 So, the RMR pathfinders weren’t exactly keen on torturing our ear canals with more distorted sounds of that ilk.

But why did we immediately latch on to the heir apparent … [...] Click to raid more!
