2024 was a difficult year at first. It started very slow and apart from a few forlorn underground pieces, there wasn’t much that struck the fancy of the old geezers over at the RMR Review Desk. So, how were we ever going to field a genuine Top 10 series with no good material to show for? But fear naught, by late spring the crop started showing some promising results. And – boy – the harvest took a somber turn with many a malevolent piece hitting the desk of the surly Guardian ov the Review Pipe.

One thing is certain. Depravity, Slaughter the Giant‘s 2022 piece, made waves over here. Huge tidal waves. And astonishingly so, because the band’s abrasive style certainly ain’t everybody’s cup of witches’ brew.

Now, right on time for the Top 10 season, StG launch a new red-hot ballistic missile called Abomination. Judging by the cover art, it must be some monkey business in Hell’s Cathedral. Priests hung upside down and daemon’s running rampant. Or something. Let’s grab some Holy Water, if that works at all. We’re not quite sure anymore. Be afraid, be very afraid!

2022 was a weird one. The year, as we all know, has been one of the darkest yet in recent history. And it shows in a fair number of excellent pitch-black records that hit our shores. On the other hand, many a prog outfit sent in pretty spectacular wares that only sailed past a famed 10/10 by a very slight margin. Even a significant number of snazzy Heavy and Power Metal records showed up at our imaginary doorstep, and for cause.
