2017 Top 10 Records

I have the feeling that the 2016 Top 10 just about came out. But time does move fast when you are having fun. And we now need to attack the 2017 Top 10 quickly, lest another few months go by.

Methinks that the records retained in 2017 were not as blackened as in former years. Instead, we found a fair share of interesting progressive and avantgarde records that bubbled to the surface. Many bands also engaged in all flavors of ‘post rock or metal’, and those – I admit – delivered the best quality stuff, in general. In other words, those outfits striding across the mighty genre list without sticking to one were the most successful.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Sorcerer – The Crowning of the Fire King (2017) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Sorcerer - The Crowning of the Fire King - Album CoverI am transfixed by sounds pouring out of my earphones. Staunch, epic metal sounds. The culprit is the Swedish band Sorcerer and their newest album The Crowning of the Fire King. Their second full length studio album.

You will surely remember their 2015 come-back epic In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross. This one got some serious acclaim for a band that over long stretches of their (almost non-existent) career produced nothing more than a few demos and compilations. But then – bang – came this first full-length record. A totally unexpected artillery volley out of the left field some two years ago.

The rub with a first smashing success is always the question as to how the band will top it later.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Sideburn – Evil or Divine (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Sideburn - Evil or Divine - Album CoverRockmusicRaider is having Swedish Rock and Metal week. We just finished a newsflash on Endbite, now hitting up on the folks from Sideburn and their 2015 album Evil or Divine. Not to be confused by the Swiss Metal band of the same name, by the way.

Sideburn are part of a very significant rock and metal community active in the land of stellar blond chicks, even better breakfast, ever behaving citizens and stringent speed controls. Not so? Damn! So, the neat surface hides this pretty exciting underground culture? Way cool that. Some big names too: Draconian, Opeth, Meshuggah, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy – and many more.Got hooked? 2015 Top 10 Records

RockmusicRaider Review - Amalie Bruun - GuitarThe first full year for RockmusicRaider went by and a great many records were reviewed. A wild ride it was and still is, with challenges galore, some overcome and some still lurking nearby. This list covers records that got released in 2015. And who would have thought that the black section of #metal would be getting such attention during this year. Certainly not me. I am looking forward to a even more eventful 2016 and the pipeline does look pretty much filled already – but this is only the beginning.

So, let’s step right in:
