Towards the end of the ’70s, Uriah Heep lost their compass somewhat after their fulminant successes during the earlier years. Demons and Wizards, The Magician’s Birthday, or again Salisbury, all of them great records, were already behind them.

In between the band produced a bunch of somewhat unfocused and seemingly hastily assembled records that frankly pulled the overall quality of the offering down. And this tendency accelerated as the first decade of their career slowly came to an end.

A new installment of the Old’n’Tasty series beckons. So, what better record to spiff this list up some than Paranoid from good ol’ Black Sabbath. Even if its slow start did not really bode well in 1970. The album did however finally make it to quadruple platinum. But only in 1995, some 25 years later.

I am usually not a very eager fan of tribute bands. Rehashing stuff in an already invented style can lead to no good, now can it?

But some of them are good, you’ve got to give it to them. And their overall goodness ain’t coming from doing covers (as many do) but applying a style or genre to their very own production. At least in part.
