RMR regulations strictly ban lyric video posts from publication on the ‘zine. And for cause. Low-budget clips like these won’t sport any stellar cinematography – at all. None, nada, zilch. And that is why, those won’t even warrant consideration. Usually.
But there’s always Nanowar of Steel to force an exception. After all, they’re the self-proclaimed masters of comedy – and they’re also good at it. After all, their Norwegian Reggaeton caused a lot of raucous uproar over here with its Latin tune and metallic antics. And the band got a few mentions from us on social media on a variety of additional clips.
But here, they kicked it up a few steps with Pirate Metal on the menu this time. A parody of a non-sensical metal genre with a hilarious twist. You see, lots of rum got wasted over the years on many of them metal pirates to the point of delirious overdose. And some of the main culprits ceased to be funny and seriously went down silly road. Now here, NoS picked up where the old hands left off. In fact, they want to see their pirate folk Sober – and buffed to a fine point. A fitness-crazed bunch of marauders without grog. That’s not normal.
Now, the garish colors of the cartoon full of innuendo already had us smiling. The “…sip, sip…” line ending in “…mineral water…”, reduced us to helpless mirth, though. But after the chorus “…pirates of milkshake, old buccaneers of masala chai…” rang out, we were rolling on the floor. And all of that gets delivered in staccato metal, complete with greens in the blender and other unspeakable things.
Sober pirates, that’s not something anyone attempted yet. Hoots!
