Video: Týr find The Rune (2025)!

Týr - The Rune - Video Cover

Týr are back with news, straight from their cold islands of the Faroes. And, as is often the case, the RMR crew was keen to hear what the old metal Vikings are up to on their stormy rock outcropping up there in the North. After all, they need to improve on their latest record. And soon.

Discreet voices whispered of a new clip, a harbinger of an equally new record to come. A one-shot video called The Rune (2025). And this piqued our interest because we didn’t know what to expect.

It could have been the countenance of Heri Joensen staring back at you from a frame for 7 minutes or so. That would be one shot. Turns out, Týr flew a drone over craggy cliffs out there on the coast. And that, perfectly timed with the song in full swing, and performed by lone members of the band scattered around the scenery. A new take on the good ol’ metal-band-in-the-boonies theme that we see all over the place. But one that this crew didn’t yet discover, and with absolute perfect timing as well.

The quietly compelling cinematography conveys a sense of the rough beauty of the islands’ landscape. But The Rune (2025) is more than that. The song rolls in on rock-solid Melodic Metal with astonishingly rich vibes straight from Progressive Metal Central. But the absolutely stunning solo at the end of the track truly takes the cake.

And what the RMR Review desk thought to be a simple ditty in reverence to Njörðr and that rough rocky landscape in the wild sea turned out to be a war song of sorts. It talks about standing firm on the land their Norse kin conquered, in the face of threats of invasion echoing over the great divide. The solution? They suggest to “…see to that these men are dealt as those mighty kings men that came before.”

Well said, Týr. May The Rune (2025) continue to shine brightly. Now, click on that link, will ya?
