Slaughtersun boast some Black Marrow!

Slaughtersun - Black Marrow - Album Cover

By Loki’s undead minions, the RMR crew just had one of those ‘strap in for the ride’ moments. Welcome to the wild and dystopian world of Slaughtersun. The band calls itself NJ1 Death Metal. A moniker that elicited some evil chuckles over here at the office tower. You know, bad New Jersey dad jokes and all. But make no mistake, the joking will stop once Black Marrow starts scorching your eardrums.

Death Metal truly is an overused and fully saturated genre. Many a big metal band dwells in its vast realms, some of them trve Metal Royalty. And most come with the dumbest band names you can imagine and logos nobody can read. So, will a new band created in 2023 succeed in this festering shark pond of metal megalodons and their equally sharp-toothed acolytes? Well, I think that Slaughersun just sent us proof positive.

First, if you expect new material, sorry to disappoint. Black Marrow is an amalgamation of all those miscellaneous singles the band already issued. But stacked into an EP and unleashed as a whole, you’ll get a ferocious interpretation as to how good Death Metal ought to sound. The band displays a knack for taking the best cuts of that sprawling construct of genres and subsequent sub-genres and forging it into a mighty blurb of alloy. A seething hot riot of Death Metal proper, tech death, and subdued dissonance mercilessly overruns your senses at any given moment. All of this comes with relentless growls, snarls, and rasps ruthlessly thrown into the fray. Add to that next-level riffing, heavy chugs, acid solos, and pitiless drum work seemingly created to announce the coming of the Dark Load. This whole chebang sounds somewhat like an adult version of Cannibal Corpse with benefits.

In other words, you won’t get any comfortable gurgling or fastidious Funeral Doom offerings. Instead, a murderously savage slice of perfectly tailored Death Metal will just steamroll over you. Sharp, grimy, and delving straight into the essence of Death Metal proper. Black Marrow truly opens this new year with a tremendous thunderclap.

Now, where’s that upcoming full-length piece?
