Well, holy moly. These age-old rock tunes never cease to excite us, now, don’t they? The deliciously musty smell of ’70s and ’80s Hard Rock assaulting our ears. Those recordings hitting early metal without really going there – yet. The high-pitched wails, and fast-moving rock ‘n’ roll on goddam steroids. Or was it LSD? We’ll never quite know.
So, here the Australian outfit The Neptune Power Federation appeared on our radar ready to pervert our youth with some unsuitable children’s books. On a video, no less. Let Us Begin boasts a lusty fast-moving Hard Rock piece that reeks of good ol’ Sunset Strip fare and leans dangerously into those glam sessions.
Some overly loud – thing that sounds as if Skid Row went off the rails and had a meet-up at the snazziest hairdresser joint with the remnants of Jones Street or something. A track so short, it can probably kick those garishly colored exhaust pipes of da mighty Power Truck it desperately wants to be on from below. All of that meaty rock ‘n’ roll sails in on them searing hollers of one Screaming Loz Sutch and a burst of energy worse than 100 cans of caffeine juice.
The equally short video is afloat with halfway upside-down crosses,1 scary ladies, venomous spiders, some fucking voodoo, terror dolls, and all those neat accouterments that will make your youngest offspring sleep better. But those juicy clichés did extract a few evil chuckles out here, we admit.
Thus, and as commercials go, the moving pictures and the screamy fit accompanying Let Us Begin worked pretty well on our lost blackened souls. The vantablack Wicked Church ov RMRTM eagerly approved this first blurb of the upcoming Goodnight My Children and will be looking for more.
