Video: I Wish You Were Dead, Lacuna Coil’s fatal desires!

Lacuna Coil - I Wish You Were Dead - Video Cover

Just one day before Lacuna Coil‘s newest album Sleepless Empire released mid February 2025, the band dropped a bomblet of a new video. At first, the RMR crew was somewhat unimpressed. The clip was based on I Wish You Were Dead, the most commercially accessible track on the whole album after all. Yet, this is also the most gothically tainted song on this album.

And sure enough, you’ll find a clip telling an almost stereotypical goth story of the beloved wanting to dispose of her mate in a colorful variety of creative ways. But all sorts of trouble prevented her from doing that and she ended up marrying him – and only then stabbed him to death, the poor soul. All of that rolls in on a voluptuous setting in purple, black, and red – like them poisoned roses you should never touch. The scene gorges with deathly figures’ strange antics in the background, complete with dance lessons for the defunct, and a glass sarcophagus to make a final statement. Some kind of a reverse tale of Snow White in Gothic Fantasy Land.

In other words, the film crew used tawdry ancient tales, geeky cinematography full of richly embroidered innuendos, hints at horror movies, and an excellent storyline. And they did that without showing one single musician in action at any one time which is commendable. If there ever was a moving Victorian Tableau full of hidden bloodlust, a yearning for the grim reaper, and the rituals getting there, then this is the one.

And thus, the RMR crew wishes you a (not so) gore-laden time with I Wish You Were Dead. Hit play if you dare.
