De Profundis spew The Gospel of Rot!

De Profundis - The Gospel of Rot - Album Cover

De Profundis’ 2022 piece The Corruption of Virtue first took us by surprise and then by storm. An astute piece of Death Metal of all couleur that fascinated us with its merciless musical prowess. But since then, nada. Not a peep from Londontown. So, we filed them away for being one of those RMR one-time events in metal.

But it appears that they were busy behind the scenes. Because – lo and behold – their newest EP, The Gospel of Rot. landed with a mighty bang in the midst of our sleepy brethren of the RMR Review Desk.

Armed with a new vocalist and bassman, De Prufundis feel invigorated and rejuvenated. Devoid of any original members, this band now hits harder than before. Rapid-fire changes from Death Metal, to blackened Death, into tech death, and off to thrashier realms, The Gospel of Rot now truly depicts the fever dream of Extreme Metal ov Ze Underground. The act’s 2022 record already seriously landed on our good side, but this short blurb here kicks things up a dozen notches.

Slowdowns and breakdowns won’t lead to soft-sweet music. Instead, you’ll get a heavy-handed serving of brutal metal dropped straight onto your feet. Strangely brutalized melodics and the odd solo do exist, but the lighter moments of The Corruption took a hike out the window. Instead, incursions into Swedish Death Metal suddenly greet you like your evil red-headed cousin. You know, the one with the filed teeth, the hungry stare, and the strange Northern lisp.

So, what is the Gospel of Rot telling us? The RMR crew’s not sure, the lyrics are – as usual – intelligible. But what we do know is that this EP is one helluva snazzy slice of heavy music. Sizzled to a crisp on a grating from hell and served hot ‘n’ hot. An EP that’ll whet your metal appetite for more, much more.

Oh, and wear them boots with steel caps before you hit play. That ferocious metal landing on yer naked paws won’t be pleasant, else.

Ed’s note: Behold, the delights of the 2025 Top 3 are upon you. And this band made it. Congrats!
