Hehe! RMR is moving out of the moldy underground sump of our review pipe into the bright-lit realm of Metal o’ the Light. But fear naught, it will only be for a short while and we will be back.
The RMR clip scouts stumbled across Feuerschwanz and their new video Bastard von Asgard. Meaning, ’tis their second appearance on this ‘zine – and that is quite a dastardly feat for a parody band to pull off over here. But then, Feuerschwanz proved to be more metal than some of those other overly silly funny bunnies out there.
Bastard von Asgard sports an energetic mix of Power and some sort of Folk Metal that should shame more established bands in these genres to Asgard and back. But of course, the fact that they convinced Fabienne Erni of Eluveitie to star in this short blurb really made us check this out. And she’s no stranger to stellar video productions. The band went deep into Norse mythology to pull out a story about Loki’s bastard, garnished it with a few metal screams, and decked it out with sing-along refrains. All of that comes with a lusty high-speed pace and a seriously shredded solo. Actually two, because the violin also sports one.
The cinematography happens on top of a snowy mountain with the band in medieval war gear, drinking horn, and Thor’s hammer included. This, and the arrival of the priestess in a fancy dress, breaking chains whilst performing the ultimate metal scream. In fact, this thing is so full of clichés, it made us go for cheesy seconds a few times. But hey, if you’re up those snowy peaks, then fondue is definitely part of the menu. So, who are we kidding, right?
Ultimately though, will Bastard von Asgard rival the quality and authentic passion of Eluveitie’s excellent pagan-infested clip of 2022? No, and they do not need to. There’s enough boundless Folk Power Metal fun in these moving pictures to please even the grouchiest of metalheads. Now, go ahead and enjoy some trve folksy power.
Let ‘er roar.
