Metallica - 72 Seasons - Album Cover

The RMR crew literally had to sift through 72 Seasons of Metallica‘s miscarriages of album art for them to finally hit a new low. We already suffered through things like the piss and blood covers on the Load / Reload series. But this one is the most awful vinyl sheath ever to appear on a metal album.1 I mean, scorched items, including a wrecked crib and miscellaneous instruments on a bright canary-yellow background. That’s like a migraine on painted cardboard. If the folks over at Metallica wanted to annoy everyone and provoke reactions, then – hells bells – … [...] Click to raid more!

Avaland - The Legend of the Storyteller - Album Cover

Avaland. The band already made a forceful appearance on this ‘zine with their debut album Theater of Sorcery. And back in 2021, this piece came somewhat as a surprise to us. This earlier record foisted a sub-par production upon the unsuspecting listener that was almost painful to endure and – thus – it got brutally ditched by a still young RMR webzine. The band’s 2019 follow-on record And the Mountains Weep also found some tough love and fell through the cracks pretty miserably at the Review Committee’s desk.

So, here we are in early 2023 and Usurp The Throne, Uburen‘s newest concoction, is finally on the menu. Third time’s the … [...] Click to raid more!

Dismal – Via Entis (2023) – Review

One of the major stepping stones to a great record is a pristine production. No friggin’ doubt about it. But methinks that a number of bands didn’t quite catch that one yet. And when this juicy little detail is overlooked, then lackluster things like this one and this one happen. And that’s often a pity. Because all the good ideas are usually right behind the curtain, only they won’t quite come out and shine.

And these records often feel like a confused circus hiding its very own performers. So, what’s it gonna be with the folks over at Dismal? … [...] Click to raid more!
