Apostolica - Animae Haeretica - Album Cover

Apolostolica was quite a surprise back in 2021. The band emerged out of nowhere in full anonymous mode à la Ghost on the Power Metal train with Haeretica Ecclesia. The band’s debut came along as one full-throttled PM album of a band staffed by reputable and established musicians from a variety of bands. That’s what we were told, to be precise. Especially Ezekiel‘s croaks sounded suspiciously similar to some of the bigger players out there in the metal multiverse.

But be this as it may, the record made quite an impression over here. Albeit with a record that … [...] Click to raid more!

Mental Cruelty - Zwielicht - Album Cover

Already a glance at the album cover piqued our interest to explore this one further. A wispy white figure on a black horse painted in pseudo-impressionist undertones and a band logo emerging straight from the woods. Meaning, if I would not know what it says, I’d never guess. That metal joke never gets old, doesn’t it? And then they called their band Mental Cruelty, which – come to think of it – may well be indicative of their metal style.

Immortal - War Against All - Album Cover

Ah, yes. Our mainstream metal series takes on some truly malevolent steam. Immortal just dropped War Against All, their 10th album. And – as always – this is yet another well-established Extreme Metal band that – somehow – never made it onto our smattering of lists.1 Yet more fodder for the dreaded guillotine on the RMR Altar ov Metal Ignorance.

And we heard them all. The voices screaming loudly that nothing memorable was left standing in Metal’s Hall of Fame in the thorny wake of Abbath‘s departure after All Shall Fall. Ironically, apart from the high … [...] Click to raid more!

Oryad - Sacred and Profane - Album Cover

I am going to be straight with you. I was ready to ditch Oryad‘s Sacred & Profane and send it down into the dreaded oubliette. The place at the RMR office tower without any chance for escape for delinquent records. Yet another Symphonic Metal piece with a classically trained female vocalist. Many of those already crossed our hawse to the point of symphonic overload. Been there, done that, got the wacky band shirt. Ain’t it, Nightwish?

And yet. Oryad‘s debut offering here seems to harbor more succulent details than meets the ear at first. Because you see, Sacred [...] Click to raid more!
