Maceration – Serpent Devourment (2025) – Review

Maceration - Serpent Devourment - Album Cover

Rogga Johannson anybody? The RMR crew feared for a moment that the geek-in-chief of Swedeath is on the prowl again. But not so. Instead, we’re faced with an archaic and primordial version of Death Metal brutality. With some – Cthulhu-esque thing from the deep watching you from the cover with evil, hungry, and alien eyes.

And yes, we’re talking about Maceration. An age-old band torturing our eardrums since 1990. A band offering fake Swedish fare because they actually hail from – Denmark? Correct, geographically speaking, but not so fast. Thus, let’s take a step back. After 1995, the band … [...] Click to raid more!

Nile - The Underworld Awaits Us All - Album Cover

A short while ago, RMR tackled a feisty mix of mainly dissonance and tech death, served on a platform of overwrought occultism. A peculiar set of styles that somehow worked nonetheless. Oddly so, but it did. So, why not continue with yet another tech death act that waited for attention over here for a few months now? Nile‘s the name, and The Underworld Awaits Us All is the game. But man, did the overindulging fanbois and girls swoon over this record that comes with a cover art sporting a wave or vortex of something that must not be … [...] Click to raid more!

Bestowed with a gazillion greasy hooks that will suck you into the darkly glowing underground. Oh, and none of that friendly gurgling and burpy wet schmoozing of the cadaver gang allowed.1 A redline not to be crossed.

So, what better idea than picking a band named after parasitic fungi. Will some crazytown loons be waiting just ahead at the dark end of the lane? Perhaps. Let’s find out what vile and ominously … [...] Click to raid more!

Wormed - Omegon - Album Cover

Alright, Wormed should form part of our n00b crowd at the RMR office tower. A list of established metal acts that – to this day – somehow didn’t make it on our roster yet. The band emerged from the vile depths of space in 1998 and produced all of – four full-length albums over all these years. But even with a scarce density like that, this band has exerted considerable influence on Brutal and Technical Death Metal over time.

RMR is no good with ‘established’ bands of the alleged metal mainstream. So, it’s no surprise that this band somehow sailed … [...] Click to raid more!
