RockmusicRaider Review - Valfreya - Promised Land - Album CoverI am unsure where this somewhat morbid fascination with the past history of marauding Norsemen going Viking comes from. After all they invaded the homesteads of foreign populations, looted, killed and enslaved until there was no one left. And then settled the lands for whatever it was worth.

But here we are and Viking Metal bands are legion these days, thriving in an ever increasing genre. And let’s face it: Metal with all its dark facettes is just perfect to describe yonder sea adventures and battles alike. RockmusicRaider already covered a score of Viking Metal bands, if you can call them that. Amongst which you will find the famous ones like Amon Amarth or the Canadians from SIG:AR:TYR.Got hooked? Smokey Fingers – Promised Land (2016) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Smokey Fingers - Promised Land - Album CoverSometimes it does the soul good to be transported to yonder laid back times of Easy Rider (the film), Doc Hollyday, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the likes. Just makes you want to put on your cowboy boots, hunt for these tight jeans, don a Stetson and go a-cruisin’. Down dusty highways, across broken service stations to stop at a saloon in a windy town for beers, burgers and fun.

Now, when I first saw the trailer Smokey Fingers issued and these guys talked in Italian, I scratched my head, not sure where this was all heading. But then you start twirling Promised Land and out comes stellar Stoner Rock of the Southern kind, (Italian tainted) drawl and all.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Newsflash: Valfreya launches Indiegogo Drive for new album!

RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Valfreya 2015The Montréal based Viking metallers Valfreya launched an Indiegogo drive to enable recording and release for their new upcoming album Promised Land, due for 2016. This newest magic potion will follow their former productions Acoustic Chronicles (2013) and Path to Eternity (2012), signed to Maple Metal Records.

The band formed back in 2009, founded by Korrinn, female front and main composer. The band employs a very varied style, ranging from Black Metal infused Viking metal, over Folk and Pagan Metal to totally acoustic Medieval pieces. Some of that delivered in French, no kidding.

The new album will likely feature a cover story about a conqueror and his warriors who came from the North. Got hooked? Raid this some more...
