Veonity – The Final Element (2024) – Review

Veonity - The Final Element - Album Cover

Power Metal hasn’t been much in play for the RMR zine this year. The malevolent undercurrents of the metal underbelly gained a lot more heft and that went to the detriment of the Metal o’ The Light. The Swedes from Hammerfall rose to questionable fame this year, being the only Power Metal outfit to date in 2024 on RMR. And that lands us with Veonity and their new piece The Final Element. More Swedish metallic power to embellish our somewhat overly daemonic stance on this year’s roster.

Sometimes I wonder why a record selected for review suddenly doesn’t sound right anymore. Okay, the selection process is swift and brutal – but more often than not right on point. One should get the gist of any piece in a few minutes after all.

Nocturna - Of Sorcery and Darkness - Album Cover

Ritual magick at work at any dark turn of endless black masses. Thus, we emerged into a magical forest where witches cast spells upon unsuspecting travelers. But then, the mauve-colored album art already gave this away, right?

A landscape inhabited by the Italians of Nocturna and their newest concoction Of Sorcery And Darkness. A new installment of Power Metal, courtesy of Scarlet Records. And before confusion sets in, this outfit … [...] Click to raid more!

Drown in Sulphur - Dark Secrets of the Soul - Album Cover

Now, we’re a bit confused. Scarlet Records are usually known for their penchant for high-end Power Metal. But blatant Extreme Metal? That’s kinda unusual, but why the hell not? Especially when the material presented could well rival stuff peddled by bigger and more established outfits.

Already the band name Drown in Sulphur is darkly ominous, to say the least. That’s not a fate we wish to impose on our worst enemies. Right? But – in hindsight – nomen est omen, the record often exudes that odor of drowning in something unpleasant. Now, where’s that gas mask and full bodysuit? Chemical … [...] Click to raid more!
