Will the number 13 turn out to be bad? After all, it’s considered THE bad omen for most of the world. Loki managed to get Baldur1 killed after arriving as the 13th guest at a dinner in Valhalla. Or – Judas served as the 13th participant at the last supper, allegedly.2 So, there’s a certain unease about that number in Western Culture, which is often associated with bad luck.

But. There’s always a ‘but’, right? 13 undoubtedly wasn’t an unlucky number for the latest Black Sabbath record. And in Italy, so I’m told, the numeric sign for bad … [...] Click to raid more!

Apostolica - Animae Haeretica - Album Cover

Apolostolica was quite a surprise back in 2021. The band emerged out of nowhere in full anonymous mode à la Ghost on the Power Metal train with Haeretica Ecclesia. The band’s debut came along as one full-throttled PM album of a band staffed by reputable and established musicians from a variety of bands. That’s what we were told, to be precise. But hindsight is always 20/20 and now it’s too late. Also, for some reason, DoT‘s 2019 album didn’t register over here. A trail of missed opportunities and skeletons in the backyard? Somewhat.

Now, luckily and thanks … [...] Click to raid more!

Evermore - In Memoriam - Album Cover

Evermore‘s 2021 debut Court of the Tyrant King appeared somewhat reluctantly on the RMR ‘zine. Only in 2022 did it dawn on us that tyranny can make for great Power Metal. So, here we were, comfortably late – and totally surprised by that steady stream of astonishing Power Metal roaring toward us from an unknown band.

2021 and 2022 yielded a crop of 8 PM reviews each, some at pretty stellar levels. Out of which Vandor, Ilium, and Fellowship stood out. 2023 has been more restrained so far. Luckily the laggards at the RMR review desk finally … [...] Click to raid more!
