Fabienne Erni has crossed our hawse a few times since she abruptly appeared on Eluveitie‘s roster in 2017. And from that moment on, she embarked, with this outfit and a couple more bands, on a widely recognised and critically acclaimed musical career.
Now, in the run-up to her first solo album, Starveil, out later this year, she released a first clip worth mentioning. Same as the new piece currently in prep, Ritual is a pigheaded little blurb. The song kinda sails close to what early Symphonic and Melodic Metal did in the ’00s and tweens. You’ll get a tasty mix of somewhat Progressive and Alternative Rock and Metal that’s nicely seconded by Lena Scissorhands (Infected Rain) with her throaty, powerful rasp. All this rides in on Erni‘s multilayered vocals that – as always – are as powerful as they are suave.
As for the cinematography, the RMR crew absolutely loved the level of detail the film crew put into conveying that specific message. You’ll find yourself in some sort of witch’s abode straight out of a fairytale, complete with two baroquely-clad wizardesses on full display. Spells, curses, and ornate magic boxes are displayed in full use. Only to invent some sort of arcane email, fueled by magick and rich in exquisite calligraphy. There you go, take that, Arpanet. You weren’t the first after all.
