The folks over at the RMR review desk are big fans of Heavy Metal. Yes, THAT genre again. The one that’s refusing to die with age-old bands still thriving on it to this day. And some of them are still stadium fillers, believe it or not. But there’s not only the old geezers still out there, you also find pretty good young guns hard at work to keep things alive.

We like them pig-headed and unhinged over here. Proud from the underground, unknown bands that reach us seemingly from nowhere. Complete with some delicious chaos that we will find difficult to describe and rate correctly.

Sanguine Glacialis have been around the block a few times, obviously. After all, the band started brandishing its wares since 2010 or so. They’re thus not necessarily unknown to the initiated. But they indeed sailed straight past the RMR sentinels with their somewhat confused 2018 piece Hadopelagic.

Methinks we just covered another one of Sergio González Catalán‘s musings. And sure enough, it was Winds of Tragedy, the blackened branch of this one-man band’s two-sided artistic spigot. Yet, the RMR crew had some reservations about that one with some elements that wouldn’t quite fit the mold.

Now, Rise to the Sky is back with Catalán on safe territories he knows best. And that is Doom Death Metal filled with weeping strings, soaring guitar riffs, and the relentless raw roar that is the man’s trademark. Tormentum, Queensrÿche Rages Against Torture!

Queensrÿche endlessly fascinated us with their early work. They had some great hits later, too, but were never quite able to recreate this unique sound from Geoff Tate‘s glorious days. However, the band found a great replacement in the highly talented Todd La Torre back in 2012. And in time, the band managed to up the ante and produce material that seems to harken back in style and crispness to the olden golden days of this band’s glory.
