Some bands truly like that balancing act – and most are good at it, too. That gallivanting about those gazillions of metal flavors to concoct something of their own making. They don’t necessarily invent anything new, but those records often hit you with a rock-solid metal avalanche.

Records of substance that provide that metallic manna any metalhead craves. The real thing, not watery remnants of a thing called metal long ago.

Aye, sometimes the good ones win and the bad guy needs to take a hike into the murky yonder. Like in the Good ‘ol Far West. Or – in this case – logic and common sense prevail.

And that’s a good thing.

For those who are not aware of the case, The US Power Metal band Tanagra found themselves in a pretty severe trademark dispute with the Kudelski Group in Switzerland. Between other things, the company sells audio equipment under the moniker Nagra. Kudelski took exception to the inherent similarity of the band name and filed a dispute. A lot of howling and bitching by self-proclaimed moralists lately echoed off the walls of the RockmusicRaider office suite. Deep questions galore about ethics, playing to theories that you should not take money for the work you do. That by doing so, your pure creative spirit as a blogger will grow the infamous mold of corruption. Specifically, in the music industry, this view lately became a problem.

Sigh.

Methinks that this is an age-old question that bothers many a journalist out there1. Is it – yes or no – unethical to take money? And if so, why?

Heron – Time Immemorial (2020) – Review

Sometimes things happen for a reason. And with Time Immemorial of Heron, the time just wasn’t ripe yet for a review. So, the record sat patiently in the back corner of the review pipe, as its name kinda implies. The ears of the RMR crew over here were probably a tad too strained with Extreme Metal and its screamy extravagances. You get that sensory overload at times and things won’t compute anymore.
