Technical Metal. This excuse to go wild on any lick, hook, and element you might think of. True, RockmusicRaider already covered a few pretty good Tech Death bands out there. But it remains a troubled and hectic approach to your metal. A tendency of haste and untamed arrangements that often are counterproductive, to say the least.

Now imagine you go ahead and heap anything blackened that seems to fit on top of all the death elements you can think of. Now that would be what? Technical Black Metal on deathly meth? Well, whatever.

I still remember the enraged and menacing bear-like creature on Myrrys‘ front cover. It exudes this mystical and inhuman furor, as it should. And by doing so, the beast really gives you a hint of the type of metal heading your way.

And truly, Noumena, right off the bat, surged forward with those oddly comfortable growls on a rock-solid and totally cohesive piece of Melodic Death Metal. This whole record oozed that sense of purpose, a march forward to some sort of a final goal.

I sometimes like to think back to those awesome sailing ships. You know, these 1st Rates1 that majestically traversed the oceans at snail pace. State of the Art technology back in their day and death to many forests in Europe.

They all had one inherent vice, though. The whole navy was at the whim of the winds as its sole means of locomotion. And when the wind blew lustily, crews sometimes set way too much sail.

If that happens, the ship becomes over-pressed or over-canvassed.

I heard rumors. Rumors that former works of Mercyless somehow didn’t quite convince. Records yingyanging wildly about the quality spectrum, new styles that didn’t fit the mood of the fan crowd. C.O.L.D. of 1996 that really lost them a lot of followers. Boy, that’s a ton of baggage right there.
