Third Storm just returned from the cold, vast plains of Hel. To torment us with their new EP Tarîtîya Me.
The Swedish band sports a very dark and weird mix of Black Metal. With a goodly portion blackened Funeral Doom Metal thrown in for good measure.
The band formed way back in 1986, in cold dark Sweden. By a bunch of youngsters wanting to do something different from the mainstream, ending up on the smelly bottom of extreme underground metal. The same vile mainstream that looked at anything blackened with disdain, to say the least. And who could blame them, really? This was the time when the Scandinavian Black Metal movement really got underway.
Third Storm only performed about a dozen, very Black Metal oriented shows at that time. Initially disbanded in 1988, they restarted themselves in 2014. And now emerge out from the ground, like some friggin’ undead. The current lineup consists of two original members, vocalist Heval Bozarslan (SARCASM) and guitarist Jimmy Eriksson.
And I daresay, this mix of Black and Doom Metal really got on our good side. Kind of a weird marriage between Goholor and My Silent Wake. A comparison that for sure is not perfect, but close enough. And Tarîtîya Me really hooks you with these sounds from the origins of Black Metal, coupled with doom that oozes out of every nook and cranny of this short album.
The band plans to release a full-length record further down the road. In the meantime, enjoy the EP or listen into the video the band issued earlier.
Watch out for squalls with Third Storm. Their stuff is good, very good. But have a care. They dwell down there in the blackened pit, where trvly evil metal happens. And you will like it.
