RockmusicRaider Review Leaves Eyes King of Kings - Album Cover

I am pleasantly surprised! Leaves’ Eyes again managed to up the ante and add a lot of metal in King of Kings to their already improved former delivery in Symphonies of the Night. They steadily increased the quality of their musical prowess over the years and King of Kings is no exception. Deeper, darker, more metallic in structure, but also folk-laden in certain parts. Sometimes it almost reminds me of some Folk Metal acts – but not quite to the extent of calling them that. For those who have read it, the flat delivery of the last record did not impress me much. Not much substance and not much of anything else. That is why I did not even bother to have a look at their go-between Meredead from 2011, for which some of my co-conspirators had some serious woes to tell us about [...] Click to raid more!

Leaves Eyes - Njord - Album Cover

Irish Rain from the Norwegian/German band Leaves’ Eyes 2009 3rd full studio album Njord actually sounds pretty good. But only just – and it is a folk song to boot. A few pipes, a little foggy, fairy voice chirping along about the rain in Ireland. And bang, you got yerself a song. This actually fits well with the overall structure of the album, but more to that later.

Njord is – by the way –  the ancient god of seafarers. But also the terror of all seamen who face the ocean at their peril each day. At least, that was [...] Click to raid more!
