Alright, RMR’s pickup of progressive pieces has been slow in 2025, to put it mildly. So, better start late than never. Spotlight on, pointed directly on the Dutch act Traversus. Navigate is their newest EP, and it’s a strange animal. Not weird in any confused way, but it takes some chutzpah to mix Hard Rock with Progressive Metal and a ton of Gothic Metal in the fray. That’s dangerous waters with a lot of unseen reefs to navigate through.

Usually, the RMR crew doesn’t respond to shoutouts to cover very short blurbs like that one. But here Stortregn appeared on our radar with a pretty loud bang. Impermanence of 2021 was the latest piece the review desk picked up, and it was a feisty one. For some reason, Finitude didn’t make it onto our review pipe, and it probably should have.

Ah, so many vortices out there in the Metal Multiverse. It’s a fascinating choice for a band name, as you never know where you will end up once the vortex sucks you into its terrible embrace. And theories are legion out there, with the most likely outcome that you will simply die if the thing is lethal enough. No mystery there.

Croak! Ah, this is going to be a difficult one. The RMR crew already covered swampy gurgles in the past, emanating from slimy creatures dwelling in the rotting muck. Such pieces can get far with us. And besides, the RMR crew often fancies leaning into the slimy primordial soup of deathly prog.
