Admitted. The RMR crew heard the name of this act mentioned on some occasions. Unsurprisingly so, as some of the RMR crew practically sit atop Impure Wilhelmina‘s main location. Not that the folks around Michael Schindl have an inkling of this. And besides, our bunch here changes location often, so one day this is true and the next no more. It has been some time since a genuine, new Progressive Metal piece hit our review pipe. A few remarkable records came our way last year, and that was a good sign. Yet with the departure of some big names1 over the years, things got a little bleaker.

But for the most challenging category in prog, the conceptualists and real storytellers, there was almost no movement. True, acts such as Ayreon and the rest of Arjen Lucassen’s gaggle of happy misfits still exist. But the man behind this whole construct ain’t no fresh young tiger anymore, either.

2026 is still young. And, already, yet another metallistic one-man show makes its presence known over at the office tower. In the past, the RMR crew wasn’t all that thrilled about them, though. The typical stale odor of a do-it-yourself piece often wafted about the turntable when we played them. A record stitched together like one badly finished golem and then let loose. More often than not, da master also took mixing and mastering duties onto his or her to-do list. And this didn’t bode too well for the end product, either.

Alright. It looks like Novarupta‘s latest concoction, Astral Sands, is the last partition of a four-piece journey into fantasyland, meaning the infamous four elements. Yes, the ones used by pagan religions of the past and present to great effect all over the world.

And the RMR crew missed that particular boat completely. And quite unsurprisingly so. Their latest piece, Carrion Movements, turned out to be an instrumental concoction and was thus brutally ignored. Rulez are to be obeyed after all!
