2017 Top 10 Records

I have the feeling that the 2016 Top 10 just about came out. But time does move fast when you are having fun. And we now need to attack the 2017 Top 10 quickly, lest another few months go by.

Methinks that the records retained in 2017 were not as blackened as in former years. Instead, we found a fair share of interesting progressive and avantgarde records that bubbled to the surface. Many bands also engaged in all flavors of ‘post rock or metal’, and those – I admit – delivered the best quality stuff, in general. In other words, those outfits striding across the mighty genre list without sticking to one were the most successful. And we got them from unexpected places sometimes.Got hooked? RockmusicRaider Review - Infinitas - Civitas Interitus - Album Cover

Do you like spelunking? Fancy mystical landscapes gorging with ancient lore and accounts of witches? Then you need to visit Muotathal somewhere in nowhere-land in Switzerland. The region is home of the famous Hölloch, a world-renowned cave system of a couple of hundred klicks in length.

Sometimes the goofy Swiss really knock themselves out. Wikipedia indicates the cave to be 200.4 kilometers in length, which should elevate whoever wrote that sentence to dork nirvana on a world stage of wannabe dorks. So, don’t you ever misstate that (supposed) fact by even one millimeter or the ghost of the last witch – the Kastenvögtin – will surely beat you senseless.

So, why am I not surprised that this location bred Infinitas – a metal band, no less.Got hooked? Raid this some more...

Lör – In Forgotten Sleep (2017) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Lör - In Forgotten Sleep - Album CoverI don’t travel very often. But when I do, I need some funky, entertaining tune to keep the attention at crisp levels and the energy flowing. To get there progressive tunes will be just what the doctor ordered. So I can drive fast, enjoy some road rage, rock weirdly around the car and scare my fellow travellers on the road. Perfect. What better idea than to consult the promo list for some hidden treasure waiting to be uncovered.

So, here I stumbled across the latest promo from a band going by the cvlt-ish name of Lör. Austrian – must be, judging by the name. Right? So wrong and way off target. They hail from Philadelphia, PA. And – by Loki – their début album In Forgotten Sleep is a fucking hammer blow.Got hooked? Raid this some more...
