I really got a kick out of these guys. Firing up our mighty music machine with Apathy of the Immortal, I got them folks from the Canadian band Xael lustily chanting away like good ‘ol boys from Main Street Parish Church Sunday School. I kid you not: I had visions of them in pristine, white robes with little, golden song booklets in their hands performing in front of the congregation.
But – luckily – just at the moment I started to seriously frown at the loudspeakers and got ready to switch channels, the metal kicked in with a vengeance. The band sports a refreshing, kind of melodically challenged and epic brand of Extreme Metal. And – lo and behold – in search of this endeavor, Xael went a-hunting on the grounds of our Italian friends of Fleshgod Apocalypse. But methinks that their tune is darker, more leaning towards the spiked fists of Black Metal than anywhere else. [...]
