RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Xael 2017 - SinglesI really got a kick out of these guys. Firing up our mighty music machine with Apathy of the Immortal, I got them folks from the Canadian band Xael lustily chanting away like good ‘ol boys from Main Street Parish Church Sunday School. I kid you not: I had visions of them in pristine, white robes with little, golden song booklets in their hands performing in front of the congregation.

But – luckily – just at the moment I started to seriously frown at the loudspeakers and got ready to switch channels, the metal kicked in with a vengeance. The band sports a refreshing, kind of melodically challenged and epic brand of Extreme Metal. And – lo and behold – in search of this endeavor, Xael went a-hunting on the grounds of our Italian friends of Fleshgod Apocalypse. But methinks that their tune is darker, more leaning towards the spiked fists of Black Metal than anywhere else.  [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Newsflash: Hibria lights the XX Birthday Cake!

RockmusicRaider Newsflash - Hibria - XX - Album Cover20 years have passed, believe it or not. The speedy Heavy Metal and Power Metallers Hibria just released their very own birthday present. Appropriately called XX and signed to Test Your Metal Records, their new album covers three new tracks and four live performance samples from all across their past offerings.

Hibria got this Brazilian machine going by 1996, starting off with a demo in ’97 and never stopping since. Now, after a score of singles, splits, live albums, re-issues and five full length albums with new material, it is now time to fire up the birthday cake with this newest EP-ish concoction.

Talking about the new material: Still infused with the usual Hibria #metal power, the band takes a much more progressive course on the first two tracks. Astonishingly so, kind of ditching the Brazilian freshness and clear, crisp #metal prevalent in Hibria (the album). I like the turn of events, though and the tracks are very technically savvy. But if continued, there is trouble on the horizon with parts of their fan base. Now, for those there is light at the end of the tunnel: Fool’s Paradise gets them a thrashy, speedy dose of Hibria as we know it. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!

Hibria – Hibria (2015) – Review

RockmusicRaider Review - Hibria - Hibria - Album CoverSomeone is knocking on Heavy Metal’s door! Big time. And who is brandishing these fucking pipes? ‘Tis must come from Ronnie James, but this dear friend and companion met the other side for a while now. It is Iuri Sanson of the Brazilian Power and Speed Metal band Hibria. And this on their self-titled 2015 amazingly rocky album. And this stuff they produce is really good metal – for most parts! Old style metal too, kind of showing the Great Old Ones of Heavy Metal where the new masters are.

I really like the drum work provided by Eduardo Baldo. This is not just the whoom-tchack you usually get, but much more complex structures. I daresay, they will wear him out one day, he is the man working the most in this band. And then there is the stellar guitar performance of Abel Gamargo and Renato Osorio. Sometimes a bit too much in the background, but coming out strong on solos and riffs. But more to that later. [...]  Got hooked? Raid on...!
