The RMR crew finally decided to revive the Top 3 lists for EPs and Videos. The last iteration was back in 2022 with a more or less reasonable crop of juicy goodies. The output of ’23 and ’24 was – with exceptions – apparently never enough, so we gave both a pass. That said, 2025 got us a pretty wild selection of good-to-great shorties and some snazzy moving pictures. Týr are back with news, straight from their cold islands of the Faroes. And, as is often the case, the RMR crew was keen to hear what the old metal Vikings are up to on their stormy rock outcropping up there in the North. After all, they need to improve on their latest record. And soon.

Discreet voices whispered of a new clip, a harbinger of an equally new record to come. A one-shot video called The Rune (2025). And this piqued our interest because we didn’t know what to expect.

The RMR crew just learned something new about the Faroes. In 2021, some two years after Týr‘s Hel hit our shores, archaeologists established that settlers arrived at the islands way before the Vikings did. That must have shocked the entrenched descendants of the Norse on those isles and the axe-wielding metallists of the Viking Metal fan crowd. It looks like present-day island dwellers’ mighty ancestors didn’t step on virgin lands. Sheep and some folk were there before them.

RMR just got hijacked by yet another unknown record. All leaves cancelled, and no refreshments until the review is live on the website.

You see, there is this guy from TÝR who – apparently – latched on to this young female Czech vocalist back in 20181. Yet another one with classical training, serious metal urges, and loads of promise.

So, they met and produced this band between themselves. Somewhat of a mix of Island Metal from the North, Dutch symphonics, and slightly Slavik accents.
