RMR just got hijacked by yet another unknown record. All leaves cancelled, and no refreshments until the review is live on the website.

You see, there is this guy from TÝR who – apparently – latched on to this young female Czech vocalist back in 20181). Yet another one with classical training, serious metal urges, and loads of promise.

So, they met and produced this band between themselves. Somewhat of a mix of Island Metal from the North, Dutch symphonics, and slightly Slavik accents.

What a wealth of good records that came online in 2019. This year is – again – proof that the Folk, Metal, and Rock genres are still vibrant and very much alive. This is especially refreshing for rock and metal, where many an antagonist likes to declare the death of them – like every other day or so. But hey, the naysayers were proven wrong.

Amon Amarth – Berserker (2019) – Review

RockmusicRaider - Amon Amarth - Berserker - Album Cover Sometimes things just fit. At the time of the release of Berserker, Amon Amarth‘s 2019 epic, I was just reading the newest novel of Bernard Cornwell’s Viking series.

A perfect backdrop to a great story, whilst Johan Hegg growls about the English growing confused when faced with the berserkers of the Norse invaders. Back in time, way back in time.

And it is interesting how stamina and – for sure – authenticity will keep you on track with a style that did not change much over time. If anything, Amon Amarth will serve as a dead-certain value in [...] Click to raid more!

Tyr – Hel (2019) – Review

RockmusicRaider - Tyr - Hel - Album Cover It is true. These guys have an ego bigger than the tiny Faroe Islands, where they hail from. The swagger they deliver their fare with continues to astonish me. But what can you do, when warrior blood flows in your veins.

Right? 

Hel, the newest record of Tyr, feels, as if the beer-swirling folks of Alestorm moved North, and grew some muscle and real beards. And Amon Amarth should be ashamed of themselves, they just got keelhauled by some trve vikings. Or at least by the remnants of the descendants, or something.
