Ars Moriendi, the art of dying. Many a band already used that striking phrase to name a track, the recently reviewed record of Sanguine Glacialis being the last addition to the RMR ‘zine. But a handful of them out there embraced this moniker as their own. And that’s pretty heavy if you consider the sinister and morose meaning of the phrase. Visions of doom, damnation, and French-tainted brutalities? Ars Moriendi – gruesome roadways ahead.

You know, some time ago we covered a band that somewhat overdid it in so many ways. One part of their sins was a totally overwrought interpretation of Death Metal. The RMR crew opined at that time that we occasionally love ourselves a good gurgle. But – of course – this must be done with mastery or all that phlegm-filled depravity will not be worth it. And since that time we scouted the vast Death Metal universe for just THAT band.

What about – some Brutal Death Metal lost in translation with Technical Death Metal? You know, extreme ferocity that won’t change its attack vector until you either fled or were trampled by the horde. It depends, I guess. On the day and the level of rage that the Dark Lord delivers. Whenever the RMR crew members need to lose some mental steam, Anaal Nathrakh is the go-to band. That’s where real rage happens, delivered by two true wackos. It’s like a steely high-pressure valve. And we’re all hoping that they’ll still continue for a while longer. We might soon run out of records to cover, else. This fucking crazy world of ours is wearing us out and some will need this band’s ferocity or some folks might just grab that chainsaw back in the shed.
