Picture this: A kiwi band from Dunedin in New Zealand, now based in Scotland (of all places), sporting a Swedish frontman from Malmö. Meet Sojourner and their debut full-length album Empires of Ash.

Their tune is something like Jethro Tull got married to Clannad (ok, not metal, I know) and then met Ashbringer. All that jazz placed into a landscape reminiscent of Caladan Brood and Summoning combined.

So, what empires await thee?

Don’t I just love everything involving Lovecraft?

A brilliant horror fiction writer in his own way back at the beginning of the last century. He released materials that still find a large fan base to this day. Unfortunately, metal was not born yet at this time. And we had to wait some more time until some bands took notice. And started to write music on this subject.

But then again it does: ‘Cause it’s called Samurai Metal, that’s what!

I must say, this piping hot and spicy miso soup Whispered have created with their third album Metsutan: Songs of the Void will fill your metal heart with joy.

In fact, this somehow sounds like the latest of Insomnium gone East with a dose of Children of Bodom that just got itself an extra Death Metal injection. A [...] Click to raid more!

RockmusicRaider Review - Nemesea - Uprise - Album Cover

I did not quite know what to expect. Nemesea‘s last production The Quiet Resistance did – well – not exactly exert the metal-infused pull one would have expected. At least not on all fronts – some tracks were right there, some sort of very dark Pop Metal infected with Gothic elements.

Then judging by their about-face they made with In Control away from their Gothic Metal laden style displayed in Mana, it does not bode well for future records (and boy did I love Mana…). Now The Quiet Resistance held loads of dark promise. But what about their newest and 4th full length album Uprise? And after [...] Click to raid more!
