This is one of those ‘if only’ moments. You see, these instances where you wish that you or someone else would just have taken the path to the right in this fork of the road. Yet, for some bizarre reason, you or the other guy did not do that.

Just so happened with Within Temptation on Resist. If only they would have taken a different route, the right, the decisive one. Kind of what Sharon den Adel did, when she went full-tilt solo with My Indigo.

To beat Passenger records with the allure of All The Little Lights or Whispers will be difficult, to say the least. Even if these two contained many sins that truly chipped away at their overall ratings. And indeed, this is the mighty rocky mountain that this particular artist currently tries to vanquish.

I have been less than amused with the 2016 record Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea. Even if this one contains pretty sturdy tracks like Anywhere with its funky beat. So, hey, you can’t get it right every time. Superman ain’t in it.

By Thor, I just realized that this blog never REALLY looked at the folks of Metallica. Okay, we got Hardwired…To Self-Destruct on the menu for sure. The somewhat frugal 2016 offering that only got some grudging claim to fame.

But one of the turning points in their career really spread along a series of albums starting with the self-named record Metallica, also called the Black Album. Back in 1991 the band already had serious action under their belt. Kill ’em All or Master of Puppets kinda rocked them to stardom already.

Solemnly marching Death Doom Metal sounds with a melodic twist have a soothing quality. Comfort in dark, dreary sounds. Drenched in a sea of sorrow and countless tears. Don’t you think?

Just savor the soaring guitars that always kind of feel out of place. Yet they must be there, or the tune sounds incomplete. Or visit the measured growls that compete with clear voice lyrics, as the theme and atmosphere demand. All of that renders this tasty amalgam of Extreme Metal into something really palatable.
