Dodecahedron graced us last year with some excellent fare. Icy cold was the embrace, and blazing hot the Extreme Metal. In the meantime, we enjoyed Vitrun of Carpe Noctem in all its terrifying splendor. Together with many others that must remain unnamed for sake of simplicity.

Those are all, kind of part of the same ilk. A real genre, so hidden that not many will call it music. And truly, some of that stuff is like ice picks in your brain that you cannot dislodge, until the last note gives up the proverbial ghost.

Halestorm rulez, they said. The band will continue to deliver, they said. And truly, after former premium releases like The Strange Case of… or the more lackluster Into the Wild Life, expectations for anything coming from Lzzy Hale‘s corner were high. 

Sky high.

The awfully long waiting time for new material to come out added to the angst that Halestorm could be headed towards loony road. Not to forget the somewhat rosy direction Halestorm took in their last record. Kind of exposing Lzzy‘s soft side at every turn of the road. I am mad today. Black, raging mad. Eyes turning dark and glowing, horns growing on my front kind of mad. A real cosmic rage of epic proportions is roaring through my dark veins.  

So, what better time to violate a few principles? Even if the mighty god of blogging sez that thou shalt not turn against his Sacred Rulez. Hoots! So, the first one stipulates that you should not review records older than a few months. And for sure not those of last year.

Yep, right.

Aye! Guilty! The first listen of Queen of Time – Amorphis‘ 2018 concoction – originated from a relatively lo-fi streaming platform. And – unsurprisingly – this first glimpse left yours truly wondering where Amorphis was headed these days. Terrible visions of Amaranthe-esque disasters, misguided Power Metal et al. But the Finns usually have been a stable brand. At least until now. So, confusion reigned for a while at the RockmusicRaider offices.
