Now, we’re a bit confused. Scarlet Records are usually known for their penchant for high-end Power Metal. But blatant Extreme Metal? That’s kinda unusual, but why the hell not? Especially when the material presented could well rival stuff peddled by bigger and more established outfits.

Already the band name Drown in Sulphur is darkly ominous, to say the least. That’s not a fate we wish to impose on our worst enemies. Right? But – in hindsight – nomen est omen, the record often exudes that odor of drowning in something unpleasant. Now, where’s that gas mask and full bodysuit? Chemical … [...] Click to raid more!

Mental Cruelty - Zwielicht - Album Cover

Already a glance at the album cover piqued our interest to explore this one further. A wispy white figure on a black horse painted in pseudo-impressionist undertones and a band logo emerging straight from the woods. Meaning, if I would not know what it says, I’d never guess. That metal joke never gets old, doesn’t it? And then they called their band Mental Cruelty, which – come to think of it – may well be indicative of their metal style.

Osyron - Momentous - Album Cover

Who can resist a record that features someone called Percival? We couldn’t. Promises of old lore with Peredur1 and King Arthur. Misty sagas of even mistier origins lost in the tunnels of time.

But that wasn’t the only attribute that lured us into faraway Canadian lands. It’s Osyron‘s feisty and harsh brand of Progressive Metal that piqued our attention, too. Same as a few other bands of similar ilk that crossed our hawse earlier this year.

Epic battles to rip the genteel Hakens of this world to shreds for sport or a band lost in that horrible labyrinth … [...] Click to raid more!
