This one really rocks.

But in a lost identity, total head-banger kind of way. And I am confused. Because the Finnish boys from Funeralglade got a label of Melodic Death Metal stuck to themselves, they said. Of the Northern kind, they said. 

Yet out comes something called May The Funeral Begin. The RMR crew had to descend to the basement and let the big boxes rip. And in the process detected a mix of Arch Enemy, a hint of crabby Abbath, and NordWitch. So, something blackened, yet melodic and totally metal. We did not feature a helluva lot of Metalcore lately. Mainly because there was nothing juicy enough to emerge from the depths of this scream-laden genre. And frankly, many a band just does that: Throwing a skeletal version of a melody at the crowd and scream everyone into the dust. Not that this will in any way enhance their chance of winning the fluffy green muppet monster to impress their audience. Apart from the die-hard fans, that is.

Deathcore can be disturbing in more ways than one. I always like the sense of dissonance and unease taking hold of you when you start on their tune. The Swiss band Life’s December are very good at that.

Their upcoming album Fatigue mixes delicately airy melodies with djent-heavy, totally brutal attacks on your consciousness. All this is crowned by growls and screams, interspersed with breakdowns, tremolo picking – the works.

The way they switch from an ambient, almost atmospheric setting straight to full-blown, heavy growls in a heartbeat is remarkably well done. Need a demonstration?

You know, sometimes a tune just sticks like mud on a wall. And this just so happened with the Italian band Banned From Hell and their second album Fall of Humanity. The description says Horror Metal. And this, too, got my attention.

And indeed, there is this hint of master Dracula sitting in the great hall playing on his organ from hell. Whilst he impatiently waits for his next victim to arrive.

But what have we got ourselves?
