Runemagick, yet another band that sailed past our mighty lighthouse unnoticed a few times. And that means their two offerings since their resurrection in 2017 – Evoked from Abysmal Sleep and Into Desolate Realms – got no attention. And no doubt about it, too. RMR was a different animal back then. We had too much material on our plates to immediately realize that an age-old DM band had just returned from the undead with a new album.

Runemagick proved to be pretty prolific over time, too. I counted some 13 full-length records since 1990,1 some of those signed … [...] Click to raid more!

Isole - Anesidora - Album Cover

A good piece of doom is always welcome here. Not that the RMR crew consists of a bunch of morose doomsayers, far from it. But there’s some allure in a juicy slab of tear-drenched misery.

And yet, true Doom Metal geekery has been pretty much absent on the ‘zine for 2023. Much to our chagrin, of course.1 But this might change with some pretty cool records still in the woodwork and one auspicious record that hit our review pipe with a pretty mighty bang some time ago.

A band standing proud alongside the likes of Rotting Christ, Septicflesh, or – again – Isolert. The RMR crew indeed waited forever and a day for that new album to drop. To the point that this started to feel somewhat like the Patrick Rothfuss1 experience all over again.

So, here we are in the loveless2 and (as yet) very unholy year of … [...] Click to raid more!

Slaughter The Giant - Depravity - Album Cover

If there’s a most unlikely metal genre to evolve further, it’s Death Metal. It’s often the same old traditional beat that will get those old metalheads all excited. Bands going full-speed melancholia DM do still appear to this day. And they’re welcome over here more often than not.1 But that section of the deathly ones already got a lot of coverage and there’s only so much we can report. So, where’s that wind of change, those new vibes that would excite us to no end?

Well, luckily, we got ourselves new bands that will take their art to a … [...] Click to raid more!
