2017 will be a good year for Progressive and Alternative Rock and Metal. And I have a feeling that some of them players will end up on the 2017 Top 10 Records list.

Increased sophistication seems to be the game these days, too. Away from heavy-handed djent-ism to more refined shores. One of the most popular kids on the metal block these days is Progressive Metal. The style in its rocky incarnation has been around for a while, of course. Just think about old rock bands like Jethro Tull, Kansas, or Uriah Heep, who got famous by not adjusting to the norm. Just to name a very few.

Here I am going to hunt – for once – well outside of my usual haunts and dark forests of yonder badlands. Lost at sea, like Jack Sparrow with his compass pointing to nowhere. And this lands us back in spice trade nirvana, with creaking planks, and salted beef for supper.

Boy, this is Scandinavian month @ RMR – for sure. And with some more Progressive Metal to boot. 

This time we are going deep down into the cold Northern fjords. The Norwegian Progressive Rock and Metal band Leprous have been on a roll over these past years. They churned out album after album rating highly with fans on the metal Richter scale.
